TKARONTO
"Toronto" comes from the Mohawk word "Tkaronto" - which means where the tree's are standing in the water. The design anishinaabe kwe Chelsee created show the tree's as the Toronto skyline and the water reflection with the current city scape.
Each design has a QR code to pass on the translation and truly start the conversation on indigenous languages all while creating visibility for Indigenous people 365 days a year!

mino giizhigad [it's a good day]
The syllabics are Ojibwe. Mino means "good" or "nice", giizhigaad means "it is day".
We use mino giizhigaad as an affirmation to reflect on the positive attributes of everyday life. Even on the worst days, there are moments to celebrate and we can be grateful for our health, our friends and family and for the world we are fortunate to occupy. We hope our mino giizhigaad apparel can be used as a reminder to slow down and reflect on that daily beauty.
Can non Indigenous people support?
Of course! It's apparel, not regalia.
We rely on non Indigenous people wearing our designs. aaniin retail inc. is a 100% Indigenous owned retailer and the designer of the aaniin brand is Chelsee Pettit - an anishinaabe member of aamjiwnaang First Nations. Our mission for our company is to put money in the hands of Indigenous businesses, brands, and designers directly!
Do a portion of the proceeds go to charity?
We are a for profit business. We believe in action focused impact and creating a sales channel for Indigenous businesses to thrive while reclaiming the Indigenous Economy through fashion and commerce. Supporting charity is great but it's better for the economy to put money into Indigenous businesses hands directly. The impact goes much further.
Some artists will seasonally create lines that support special initiatives but our first focus is making Indigenous founders money!
Shop more Indigenous this holiday season.
